Brand Wars: Cheez-It vs. Cheese Nips

It's time for another episode of Brand Wars!

Today we will be discussing cheese crackers. Specifically, we will be comparing Sunshine's Cheez-It, Nabisco's Cheese Nips, and Great Value's Cheddar Cheese Baked Snack Crackers so that we can once and for all crown a reining champion of cheese crackers.

Our research involved a blind taste test judged by me, my roommate, and my little brother.

Subject A, with the highest Vitamin A concentration, exhibited a light cheese flavor and presented a slightly chemical aftertaste. The cost per box was $1.98, which breaks down to approximately $0.14 per ounce.

Subject B, which registered lowest in carbohydrates, was very salty, had a drier crunch and a subtle cheese taste. The cost per box was $2.88, which breaks down to approximately $0.21 per ounce, a 50% increase over Subject A.

Sidenote: The Cheez-It box is a pain in the ass to close. You have been warned.

Subject C, tipping the scales with the most sodium, was very crispy with very little saltiness (go figure) and an almost imperceptible cheese flavor. The cost per box was $1.68, which also breaks down to approximately $0.14 per ounce.

Sidenote: Subject C comes in a bullet-proof bag that you will most likely not be able to open unassisted without spilling Cheese Nips all over your kitchen floor. You have been warned.

After much tasting, I decided Subject A, the generic cheese crackers, were my favorite. My brother liked the saltiness of Subject B, the Cheez-Its, the best. Finally, my roommate declared Subject C, the Cheese Nips, to be his choice.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a stalemate.

There is only one thing to do when this occurs.

You declare Whale crackers the best cheesy snack cracker of all time and tell all the others to stop being such posers.

The end.

I want to know what your favorite is! Leave a comment below to place your vote for the ultimate cheese cracker.

  1. I guess I will go with Cheez-It's, but mainly because of its snack mixes. Otherwise, I 'm fine with Cheez-It's or Cheese Nips.

  6. I prefer the Nips over the Its for flavor and texture...but would love it if they would lose the MSG...!
